The company and product
They do it by providing both relevant consulting services and a software platform that helps the users maintain thorough compliance with Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations in various countries.
While they had extensive experience with running in-person training and courses, these were difficult to organize for shift workers with ever-changing working hours and online educational platforms that were insufficient. That’s why our client’s team decided to build a custom e-learning tool from scratch.

The Challenge
One of the EHS requirements is to provide regular training for workers to help them stay up to date with regulations.
Organizing physical classes turned out to be a difficult task since workers often work in shifts, and it was necessary to manually update the attendance lists and track their progress.
E-learning platforms for EHS available at that time were complicated and unengaging and were wrapped in unappealing visuals.
The client wanted to expand their software suite by creating an e-learning application that would be user-friendly and easy to use, both for end-users as well as people responsible for creating the e-learning content.
Key challenges of the project included:
Delivering an easy-to-use tool for content creators.
Motivating end users to take retraining classes.
Repurposing an existing application to suit a redefined objective.
The Process
To reduce development time, the client decided to repurpose an existing application.
We ran a feasibility workshop, assessed which areas would require improvements, and determined their scope.
Since the original application was too complex for the purpose of creating EHS questionnaires, we cut the number of available features to improve usability. For creating custom questionnaire templates, React.js would be the perfect solution.
These changes significantly reduced the time needed to complete a training task. Exporting created content to standalone presentations or applications was an additional feature that improved user experience.

With a short timeline and numerous features to develop, the key to success was good communication. During the development process, we remained in close contact with the client to create short feedback cycles. It allowed us to avoid potential issues and set the correct path for the project.
The Outcome
The application delivered to the client outshines the competition primarily thanks to its ease of use.
Content creators no longer have to sit through two-hour-long meetings to refresh their knowledge about EHS, because now they can do it using a two-minute-long video tutorial. The appealing user interface, meanwhile, also makes the training more engaging and fun, which, in turn, encourages the workers to take retraining classes more regularly.
The repurposed module made the software suite more comprehensive and increased its competitive edge. By making the training sessions digital, our client is now able to better allocate resources and save the time of the consultants, allowing them to work more efficiently when visiting clients to draw up a list of training requirements. The client has secured an ROI a couple of times higher than the cost of developing the module and plans to sell the module to even more customers.
